The family ventured to Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1999 but later decided to return to Plano, Texas, in 2017, where they reside today.

His career trajectory in the oil industry began in 1986 when he joined Kinlaw Oil Corporation. His initial role there sparked a deep fascination with the sector, motivating him to dive deeply into all its complexities. His dedication and commitment to understanding every facet of the business accelerated his rise within the company. After a decade with Kinlaw, filled with significant achievements and promotions, Reed embarked on an independent path.

In 1996, Cagle launched his enterprise in Dallas, Texas. The following year, he founded Heartland Energy Inc., known as HEI, where he served as president and CEO. Under his leadership, HEI developed a reputation for pioneering new ventures and conducting extensive explorations in the oil, gas, and mineral domains. A notable achievement was his move into the drilling services sector in 2006, where he spearheaded the construction of a 2000 horsepower drilling rig, significantly enhancing operational capabilities.

Reed’s entrepreneurial spirit also drove him into the mining industry in 2011, when he acquired a lucrative mining concession in Oregon, producing 89,000 ounces of gold. His ventures also led him to Chile, where he played a vital role in operating and financing a gold and copper processing facility in Copiapo. There, he developed a proprietary technology for safely extracting and detoxifying substances from liquids used in metal recovery, which has set new standards in environmental safety and efficiency.

Today, Cagle resides in Plano, Texas, and continues to offer his consulting expertise to a diverse client base, encompassing both local oil and energy companies and various other industries. He is particularly valued for his work with midsize independent companies and a notable landscaping company serving East and Central Texas.

Beyond his professional life, Reed is passionate about the outdoors. He is an enthusiastic hunter and fly fisherman, and he actively promotes cycling for its significant health benefits to all ages. He also holds a private pilot's license, enjoying the freedom and perspective that flying offers. Cagle is an adept golfer, boasting a four-handicap, and he regularly participates in charity golf tournaments, often with his son. Furthermore, he founded Outreachers, a non-denominational Christian charity focused on aiding communities through sustainable and spiritual development projects worldwide. The charity actively engages in building essential infrastructure such as homes, churches, and schools and organizes the Chip-In charity golf tournament as a key fundraising event.
